It is a disorder wherein excess amount of iron is absorbed by the body. It is a chronic disorder last for years or be lifelong. This condition may lead to cancer, irregular heartbeat and cirrhosis of the liver. However, iron can be dropped to safe levels by regularly removing blood from the body. Common symptoms include pain in abdomen, fatigue, lethargy, reduced hormone production, darkening of skin and hepatitis.

A scientific examination of a sample of blood, generally advised by the physician for the diagnosis of illness, detection and measurement of drugs, assess your general state of health, to assess the functioning of the certain organs such as liver and kidneys.

Stem cells are undifferentiated cells capable of dividing and make an indefinite number of copies of themselves that serve numerous functions in different parts of the body. These cells are used for treating and understanding diseases such as to grow new cells in laboratory to replace damaged organs/tissues, to research why certain cells develop into cancer cells, test new drugs for safety and effectiveness. Types of stem cells used are embryonic stem cells, non-embryonic (adult) stem cells, induced pluripotent stem cells, cord blood stem cells and amniotic fluid stem cells. Applications of stem cell therapy are neurodegeneration, blood cell formation, wound healing, orthopaedics, infertility, brain and spinal cord injury.

Immunohematology is also known as blood banking a branch of hematology that deals with the study of antigen-antibody reactions. Patients undergoing transfusion therapy are tested for their ABO and RhD blood groups and the presence of any antibodies that may cause a reaction between their plasma and donor red cells.

Lymphoma is a cancer that begins in the lymphocytes the cells of immune system which fight against the infection. These cells occur in the lymph nodes, spleen, thymus, bone marrow and other parts of the body. Symptoms include enlarged lymph nodes, fatigue and weight loss. Diagnosis may include image tests, CT, MRI and positron emission therapy (PET).

Human immunodeficiency virus infection and acquired immune deficiency syndrome (HIV/AIDS), it harms the immune system by destroying the white blood cells that fight infection. A person with HIV infection may not notice any symptoms at the initial stage, followed by asymptomatic condition for prolonged period. As the infection progress, there will be an increasing risk of common infections like tuberculosis and other opportunistic infections. Thrombocytopenia is often associated with HIV infection.

A cancer biomarker refers to a substance that indicates the presence of cancer in the body. A biomarker may be a molecule produced by a tumor or a specific response of the body to the presence of cancer. Epigenetic, proteomic, genetic, glycomic and imaging biomarkers can be used for cancer diagnosis, prognosis and epidemiology.

Formation of blood clot within the blood vessel obstructing the flow of blood through the circulatory system is termed as thrombosis. It is classified based on the type of blood vessel affected and the precise location of the blood vessel or the organ supplied by it. Treatment includes anticoagulation, thrombolysis, surgery, endovascular treatment, antiplatelet agents, targeting ischemia/reperfusion injury.

It is a condition that develops when the blood lacks enough ed blood cells or haemoglobin. This is a most common type of blood disorder. Manifestations may include fatigue, skin pallor, shortness of breath, light-headedness, dizziness. Treatment depends on the underlying diagnosis. Vitamin B supplements may be used for low vitamin levels. Iron supplements can be used for iron deficiency.

Blood transfusion is a process in which donated blood/blood products are transferred into one’s circulation intravenously. This is a potentially lifesaving procedure used for various medical conditions to replace the lost components of blood due to surgery or injury. However, minor to severe problems do occur occasionally. Most common complications include allergic reactions, blood-borne infections, fever, acute immune hemolytic reaction.

Multiple myeloma/kahler’s disease is a cancer that forms in plasma cell. This disease can damage the bones, immune system, kidneys and red blood cell count. Symptoms are non-specific such as loss of appetite, bone pain, bone fractures, fatigue and fever. Treatments include chemotherapy, corticosteroids, radiation or a stem cell transplant.

Thrombocytopenia is a disorder in which you have a low blood platelet count. Thrombocytes are colourless blood cells that help blood clot. It may cause due to decreased production, increased destruction, pregnancy, altitude or medication side effects. Diagnosis include complete blood test, kidney function test, liver enzymes, vitamin B12 levels and erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR).

Leukocytosis is a condition wherein the count of the white blood cells will rise above the normal range in the blood. It is an inflammatory response mostly occurs due to the result of infection but may also occur due to certain parasitic infections or bone tumors as well as leukemia. It may cause due to recent surgery, steroid use, medication side effects or stress.
